89 Steps

I just moved out of my apartment in La Ropa, the one that overlooked Zihuatanejo bay. This is the apartment that had the panoramic view, the laundry room complete with washer and dryer, the HUGE hot water heater, the wonderful neighbors, the cool breezes day and night. This is the apartment that had 89 steps from the parking lot to my front door.steps

I have mixed feelings about this move. No way can I say that I don't miss the view or the sound of the surf hitting the beach below.

On the other hand, there are advantages to living in town, which is where I've moved to. It's nice to be only a few blocks away from el centro, where we can walk to eat dinner or see a movie. It's no longer a major outing to stop by the basketball court or to stroll along the Paseo de Pescadores eating coconut ice cream.

There's a sense of belonging to a community when you live in town.

There's also a sense of relief that you no longer have to carry groceries up 89 steps.

I'm very happy for you Ann, congratulations! But gosh, it must be really hard to lose the view and the sound of the sea!

Hi Beth,
Zihuatanejo is 200 KM north of Acapulco, on the Pacific ocean. It's a nice little town that's rapidly becoming a large resort area, mostly due to the presence of Ixtapa to the north.

Thanks, Katalina,
I know, life is always a trade-off, no? I was a very lucky person to have that place overlooking the bay. It was a magical two years, but I always knew I didn't want to live there permanently. I feel very much at home living in el centro.
