Valuables

In a few hours S. and I will be flying north to visit family and friends. One of the (minor) objectives of this trip is to evaluate and/or clean out (depending on who you talk to) my storage unit.

This storage unit is packed full of, ahem, valuable belongings. S. has been asking me to describe these valuable items. Sigh. I love his tidyness and his organizational skills, but really, when it comes to my valuable heritage he is carrying things too far...

So what constitutes a valuable and irreplaceable posession? Let's see, there's the 5 or 6 plastic tubs full of fabric. S. has no opinion on the value of fabric, so I'm on solid ground here even though I can tell he thinks 5 or 6 tubs might be 4 or 5 too many. I think he may be afraid that if I get rid of it I will have to buy more, and that he will be stuck waiting around for hours while I browse through fabric stores every chance I get. So on this subject I win.

Then there's the three sewing machines... That's not counting the one I bought here in Mexico. I agree with S. that one or two of them can be passed on to someone who can use them. On the other hand the reverse action on my Mexican sewing machine has inexplicably quit working. This is just the sort of emergency situation that requires a spare machine. Three spares, though, maybe not so much. He wins this one.

What else is there? A couple of bicycles. Maybe 3. One belongs to my daughter Anna, one belongs to my son Michael. I know that at one time there was another one that I used to ride, before I "borrowed" Michael's. Hey, he wasn't using it! And it's so much nicer than mine... Where is mine? Nobody wins this one. I need to get the kids to reclaim their bikes, and if there's one left over I'll bring it down here and join S. on the bike trail. Wait, that means we both win!

There's some quilts I've made. A few. Maybe 10. Maybe 15. I haven't decided what to do with them. Some are wall hangings, some are bed quilts. I'd like to bring them down to live with me here, but we only have two bedrooms in our new place. Hey, what the heck, I'll find room for them. And if the past is anything to go by, over the years I'll give most of them away to family members. Everybody wins.

Cute Mama. I reclaimed my bike and I do ride it when it is warm out. Sadly, it hasn't been that warm lately.
