Street Food

I don't eat street food very often...mostly because I'm too lazy to go out looking for food at lunch time. I used to eat yogurt and a banana when I was at work. Now that I'm not working I have more choices. Unfortunately, my scale shows that I don't always make the right choice, sigh....

There is some really good food available on the street and in the mercado in Zihuatanejo. Especially the bolillas rellenos and tamales elotes in the mercado, and the quesadillas and tamales at the basketball court on Sunday night.

One of my favorites food vendors is the hamburger guy by the basket ball court. His hamburgers -- topped with two kinds of cheese, avocados, chilies, and ham -- are a full meal. Especially when accompanied with agua de jamaica from the stand across the street.

What reminded me of all this is an interesting article by Rolly Brook describing a family that sells gorditas in Lerdo, Durango. There are families like this all over Mexico, bringing delicious low-priced food to neighborhoods and busy streets.

Rolly has even included a vocabulary lesson (food words, always a favorite with me!).

I have to stop writing now, it must be time for dinner (or lunch, or snack, or....) Thanks, Rolly, next time I get on the scale I'll think of you!
